New Hut Design
Below are pictures of how we would like the new planned huts to look. These buildings are general low cost utility buildings which are designed to withstand very high winds and have bolted iron angle frames that are anchored beneath the foundations for extra strength. The roof is supported entirely by the perimeter columns, added strength and stability is provided by bracing the roof to the walls of the building itself through suitable fixings.
The walls will be made of termite mud with concrete and local tile flooring. The roof will have pressed steel roof tiles with a 45 year guarantee. The roof will overhang the walls to keep out the rain and to also keep the building cool.
Our builder on the island, Silver will fabricate louvered steel/glass windows and doors and the building will be painted with two coats of Weather-Guard masonry paint, finished in the giraffe pattern. Funds are desperately need for this project as we need to replace all the termite mud huts as soon as possible. The termites are beginning to attack the huts to reclaim the mud and consequently they are beginning to weaken.
