Fresh Water
In
the beginning, the children used to have to go down to the waters edge of Lake
Victoria in order to collect water for everyday use. This water would be carried
from the lake up the ridge to the huts, a long and arduous walk even for the
fittest of men and women let alone for children.
With the help of Bill Champion, a Microbiologist from Hemel Hempstead General Hospital, workers on the island dug deep to release the natural spring water from the land so that everyone can enjoy clean fresh water without having to trek down to the waters edge to collect dirty bug ridden water from Lake Victoria.
A well was created from which we now have fresh running water pumped down to the living area.
